Why did you start running/walking: Originally, I ran because it was a sport and I basically participated in every sport available at school. In the past three years, I caught the race bug and have been looking forward to every event. I love the personal achievement, the interesting social dynamic, and the overall challenges that running offers. And who doesn’t love good swag and free beer?
Running/walking since: 1998. Ran track in middle and high school. Leisurely running in college, started a running club. Then started training and running lots of races in 2009.
RMRR member since: 2012
How did you learn about the RMRR: Doing a few races in the area, the name kept coming up
Average Weekly Mileage: 22
Favorite Place to run/walk: When I lived in Charleston, I loved running the Arthur J. Ravenel bridge – the only hill in the area. Some times the conditions at the top were brutal, but exhilarating. I haven’t found a favorite out here. I’m on the look out for some trails!
Favorite Workout: I love a good aerobics class (zumba, kickboxing, etc.). Nothing says “workout” like sweating buckets and having a blast. Just like running!
Most satisfying performance: My favorite race would have to be the Navy Seal Extreme Off-Road Challenge in Cosby, TN. It’s 3.5 miles of steep, crawling inclines, an obstacle course, water slogging, and a rope climb through a waterfall. My best moment lately, however, was completing my first half marathon this year on St. Patrick’s Day.
Favorite thing about RMRR: Since I just joined today… I certainly like the amount of races and the options. I think it will be an awesome group to gain support, knowledge from and have tons of fun races moments with.
