The Rocky Mountain Road Runners Volunteer of the Month for October 2008 is Kristen Healy. Kristen is a web developer, and to say that she was essential to the creation of this new website would be an understatement. Kristen’s knowledge about web development, her patience with novices, and her committment to giving us all a website that was easy to use, easy to update, informative, and aesthetically appealing made the creation of the new Rocky Mountain Road Runner website an enjoyable experience.

Kristen is a fixture at the Wednesday night track workouts, so if you want to thank her in person for this fantastic new website, come out to the track workouts through the end of October or when workouts begin again in March 2009.

While most current members have only known the club as the Rocky Mountain Road Runners, the name of the club has had a convoluted history since the founding of the parent club, the Denver Track Club, in 1959. Kerry Kuck has been awarded the Jim Quinn Award from the National Beep Baseball Association (NBBA.org) “in recognition for outstanding service, integrity and sportsmanship.”  Kerry has been playing Beep Baseball since 1986. Beep Baseball is a modified (audio) form of baseball for the visually impaired. In this year’s World Series, he was a member of the undefeated 2008 National Championship team:  The West Coast Dawgs. Kerry is also a 2006 inductee to the National Beep Baseball Hall of Fame. [Photo by Marge Bancroft]

RMRR member Mike Blanchard won the National Masters 15K Racewalking Championship on May 18th  in Riverside, California. Mike finished with a time of 1:24:40. Mike also finished second overall and first in the 45-49 age group in the National Masters 20K Racewalking Championships, which was held April 27th in Orlando, Florida.
