Jan 25 Banquet!! Annual RMRR Awards and Fun Banquet!!

Hey, RMRR friends.  The annual RMRR Awards banquet will be held on Sunday evening January 25.  Everyone with 15 or more volunteer hours gets to attend FREE, and if you weren’t able to get in that many hours, it’s around $15 for dinner.  We hope you’ll join us!  We’ll be at the clubhouse of the Homestead Golf Course in Lakewood, and you should plan to arrive between 5:30p and 6p.  I believe dinner starts at 6:30p.  We’ll have veggie and meat choices, and there is a cash bar.

We have a lot of fun during the banquet.  We honor all of our award winners:

  • Trophy Series Winners from 1st to 20th place
  • Fastest Female, Fastest Male
  • Volunteers, including Volunteer of the Year
  • Race Directors

and we also have a slide show with all of the pictures taken at club events over the past year.  It’s a great way to remember the fun we had during 2014 and celebrate those winning awards.  We hope to see you there!

If you’re interested in joining us, please RSVP to volunteer@rmrr.org and let us know how many people are coming and your choice of veggie or meat entree.  We will accept cash and checks at the door, but we need to plan numbers, so please let us know if you’ll join us!

2016 Fall Marathon Training!

It’s time for an RMRR favorite – the fall Marathon Training Series!  All runners, whether member or not, are welcome to join in.  These training races are a series of 3 fully supported 10M or 20M races that get you ready for that spring or early summer marathon you’ve signed up for.  MTS is a perfect way to get a long training run in and let someone else manage the food and drink you’ll want.

We have three races planned this fall at Twin Lakes Park in Denver:

  • Sunday August 28
  • Sunday September 11
  • Sunday September 25

All races will start at 7am.  Don’t be late!

MTS race fees are low:  $20 for 20M, $10 for 10M.  You can sign up for the entire 20M series for $45, and the 10M series for $25.  RMRR members receive a discount on the 20M race and both race series.  You can sign up online at RunSignup (with member discounts automatically applied!), or simply show up on race day and register then.  Race day fees are slightly higher.

We look forward to seeing you at the MTS!

Kerry Kuck – RRCA Challenged Athlete of the Year!!

Friends, our own Kerry Kuck is the Road Runners Club of America’s Challenged Athlete of the Year for 2013!  We all know Kerry from his presence in our races, and I’m sure you all find him as motivating as I do.  Deb Cunningham nominated Kerry, and we found out earlier this fall that Kerry had won!  He’s a deserving man – he’s overcome obstacles that we all would find tough to deal with.
Here’s what the RRCA article in the Fall 2013 issue of Club Running has to say:

Kuck is a member of the Rocky Mountain Road Runners in Denver, and runs in RMRR races as well as many community races.  He’s always an uplifting presence and is well known in the Denver running community.  Kuck runs daily with his guide dog, Crosby.  Despite going blind from Type 1 diabetes, he says that the diabetes is harder to run with than the blindness because he must monitor his food intake when he runs long.  Kerry runs with either a sighted guide using a tether system of with Crosby.  Debra Cunningham, who nominated Kuck, first met him about four years ago at an RMRR event.  He wanted to run in the club races with his guide dog.  Kerry likes the club’s race handicap system by which slower runners start first and faster runners start later.  Under this format, he’s won ribbons in individual events.  He’s currently in 15th place in the RMRR Trophy Series.  Kuck ran the 2012 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon with help from his racing partner, David Hagburg, an Iraq war veteran.
Please congratulate Kerry when you next see him!
