Voss, Karen

Name: Karen Voss
Age: 43
Born: Montevideo, Minnesota
Occupation: Occupational Therapist
Family: I grew up #5 of 6 kids & now have lots of nieces, nephews & I have a wonderful husband, Peter who also runs when he isn’t playing golf.
Favorite restaurant: Anything that serves up creatively spiced vegetales, meats, grains & breads & good drink. Not a “fast food” junkie at all.
Favorite movie: “Being There”, The Marx Brothers and many others. I won’t watch scary movies.
Favorite tv show: I really liked the sticoms like The Carol Burnett Show, Seinfeld, and as a kid was a regular with Gilligan’s Island, Bonanza & Lawrence Welk Show. I don’t watch TV anymore except for sporting events, news, history & The McLaughlin Group.
Favorite book: Soooo many good books and so little time. I love to read.
Why did you start running/walking: Running has always been enjoyable to me.
Running/walking since: Running in organized races since age 22.
RMRR member since: I think I first joined in 1991 or 92.
How did you learn about the RMRR: I remember looking for information in a running store, probably Runner’s Roost.
Weekly mileage:   It can vary between 15 miles up to 40 to 50 and peak at 65 to 80 depending on my training and race goal.
Favorite place to run/walk: I really love running in the high country but near Denver I would have to say I end up at Red Rocks/Matthew Winter’s Park a lot.
Favorite Workout: Honestly, something that involves chasing a disc around or playing a ball game. If it is running then it is definitely trail running in the high country.
Most satisfying performance: In 2006 I was first women overall in the Mardi Gras Marathon. I got to put my arms up and break the tape. That marathon was after Hurricane Katrina and there was plenty of evidence of the damage all along the course. It was an emotional experience.
Favorite RMRR event: All of the trophy series events and the gatherings.
What do you like about RMRR?  I like the camaraderie. I like the monthly races and challenging myself to improve based on my previous times and the support and healthy competition with others in the group.
Other: So really, if you are taking the time to read our profiles and actually finding it interesting well you definitely need to join. It is a win-win situation. By joining, you get 20% discounts at local running stores and you get 12 supported/timed races per year plus you will meet great people like the ones you just read about in the “member profiles”. You got a lot to gain and nothing to lose so hope to see you at the next trophy series race.
