Why did you start running/walking:
I wanted to run a marathon before I kicked the bucket … and, it was a better way (than walking) for Sydney to discharge her energy.
Running/walking since:
2004.
RMRR member since: 2004.
How did you learn about the RMRR:  Yahoo!  I was in between jobs, decided to start running regularly and thought the best way to do so would be to join a club.
Weekly mileage: 35.  My “long” runs have progressively gotten shorter after finding out that I can complete a marathon with a 10 – 12 mile “long” run every third week.
Favorite place to run/walk: Highline Canal – it’s only a 6 minute jog from the house.  Sydney and I usually run at night, when rabbits, coyotes, and owls seem to be most active.
Favorite workout:
My regular nightly slow run along the Highline Canal … great time for introspection.  Am too lazy to do any real workout.
Most satisfying performance: The last 4 miles of the “old” Las Vegas Intl Marathon (Jan 2005) – my first marathon.  After 22 miles of worrying about hitting the wall (but didn’t), I realized that even if I had to walk the rest of the way I’d actually finish the marathon, I ran the rest of the way at a pace that was almost 2 minutes/mile faster than my best 5K time.  (That’s not saying much … but … it was pretty fast by my standards!)
Favorite RMRR event:  August TS and barbecue -short race, food, opportunity to catch up with fellow members.
What do you like about RMRR?  Good variety of people with at least one common interest.
Other: Being a slow, lazy runner with no incentive to get faster, I started participating in “easy” (i.e., no hills, smooth surfaces, generous cut-off times) marathons, ultras and stage races … a great excuse to see different places in and out of the country.
