Updates

Race Committee Updates

July Race Recap

  • Mass start – informal survey of 10 people: 3 likes, 2 preferred handicap start, 5 no preference.
  • Positives – course well marked. First loop around the lake went better w/ the mass start.
  • Opportunities – same day results didn’t work. Number the pages when printing off so can keep them in order.

August Race

  • Volunteer to count down the start
  • Masters will have a table for members who are in their club only. If members of both, get an RMRR tag with a sticker.  Travis will make the sign.
  • RDs – Michael Hopkins, Scott Newman
  • Tag/Bib Recommendations from scoring Committee
  • Potluck Items
  • Emily Griffith Volunteers
  • Pre-ordered shirt pick up after the race. Travis has shirts, Deb has list.
  • No dogs allowed at race. Greg communicating
  • Quarterly Update
    • Beck & October Course – Race Committee present recommendation for layout.
    • Race committee needs to identify a RD for December.
  • MTS #1
    • RDs
    • Volunteers – Travis will ask Cassi to send out a notice.
  • Rick – clarification that having AED on prem for races of 2500 participants or more. These are specially permitted.  Smaller races don’t need an AED.  Janet corroborated this conclusion.

Scoring Updates

  • Immediate results issue at July. Mass start was a problem as was a cable.  July results are posted, but not from the calendar link.
  • Scanner was the problem. Scott bought a new scanner for $30 and now it works.
  • Should have results in 20-30 mins after August race.
  • Mark put out the idea to split the cost of a new timing system. Mark – orienteering group has members buy their chip and bring it to the race.  If they forget it, they rent one at the race.  Wouldn’t work for us because we have a handicap start and need to update the chips before each race.

Financial Review

  • Please see Leslie’s update. Gross income up $650 b/c of MTS & membership revenue.  Credit union receipts are down.  Expenses are lower b/c of less spend on awards & dinner.
  • Mark was curious about charges for checking. Masters pays fees.  Wondered if we did?

Volunteer Updates

  • August Race
  • MTS
  • Emily Griffith
  • VOM – Heather S with the teenage volunteers.
  • Last month’s VOM, Katie Waigand didn’t get recognized.

Existing Business

  • Track
    • 6-9 people show up.  This is not that many fewer than were coming to North.
    • Gravel track is free, so Travis thinks this is going well. We’d prefer the rubberized track, but that costs $450.
  • Summer Suds – Rick
    • No one is showing up.
    • Marketing
      • Website – Dave add a summer suds update on the home page. Can we change out the home page picture once/month?
      • Poster to put up at the bar. Next one is Aug 6.  Lisa will do a poster.  Non-members can participate.
      • Greg reports that it is on the FB page.
    • Year End Awards Ideas – All
      • Suggestions for TS and Vol awards
      • Someone had asked the regular volunteers for their preference (Cassi?) Shirts that are not tech shirts.
      • Need to decide next month.

New Business

  • Contact Us Link – footer links are not functional – Dave take a look
  • Next Meeting Location 9/3 (Tuesday after labor day) at Bardo

July 2019 Board Meeting

RMRR Meeting 1 July

Board members present:  David R, Greg, Scott N, David K, Ang, Rick E, Michael, Dave C

June Race

Didn’t do a mass start.  Could do it if we shifted to a grassy area near the ball field.  Will reexamine start for next year.

Food was ok – more expensive and didn’t really use griddle, but ok

July Race

Concern about mass start.  David says the course they’ve designed won’t serve well for a mass start.  Discussion with David and Rick about it.  Michael reported that he and Travis had been out there and identified good ways to do this.  David talked about concerns with geese and goslings if we followed the old route.  “They’ve been very aggressive this year”.  Lots of discussion and bs.
Outcome:  Race committee will meet there on Saturday am and resolve.

Paying for board shirts – Dave has a Venmo acct and will pass around to the board.

Ang will ask Travis who will pick up the shirts.  Dave will work out who pays the check and get the check to the right person.

Quarterly report on races

Michael – good to announce the new course at Beck?  We decided to wait until closer

MTS for August – get up on web.  Schedule has not changed.

10M race at Westminster – do we want to move the start closer to the south parking lot?  Rick will check with Wesminster.  One concern is having the start so far away from parking.  Rick willcheck with Westminster to see if we can have more people parking in the north lot…has that irritation faded?

Scoring

Working on raceday scoring.  Adam has been working on this.  Another test n July.  Goal is that we have results on raceday by August.

Volunteer updates

VOM – Katie Weigand.

Good turnout in June.

Track  – 6-8 people usually.  Great if we can have more.  Weather not so great as well.

Summer Suds – tomorrow next running!
Add something on the web

End of Year awards – need to work on this.  Need each board member to think of new ideas.

Denver Rules on AEDs

Any event less than 2500 people needs
1. Trained CPR person
2. AED with someone who has training.

Have to buy one, certify a person or persons to do it, keep it maintained.

Rick went to City Council person.  Our “out” might be some of the wording – our races only require park approval and no other agencies.  We may be able to NOT require this; Rick is working with his city council person, and hope to hear shortly.

Second…we see that AEMs are “recommended”, not required.

We will wait until Rick learns more, and will discuss in our next meeting.  Board members should check out the reg at (get links from Leslie’s email).

Website – Dave check this.

Bardo for next meeting.
